The fifth annual Hate Crime Awareness Day was a great success, taking place in Edmonton, Lethbridge and Calgary. As in the previous years, the event was during the week of the National Victims of Crime Awareness Week sponsored by the Federal Department of Justice.  This year’s theme was "Taking Action".

Welcome to the AHCC

The Alberta Hate Crimes Committee is a unique multi-sectoral collaboration that brings together law enforcement, government, non-profit, community, and university stakeholders to strategically address hate and bias crimes and incidents in Alberta. Through this collaboration we strive toward making Alberta a hate-free province.

The Alberta Hate Crime Committee would like to thank the Federal Department of Justice and all communities and organizations that participated in the fourth annual Hate Crimes Awareness Day during the Federal Department of Justice’s 8th annual National Victims of Crimes Awareness Week.  The leadership of Alberta’s political, government, police and community citizens and organizations was evident during a day where equity and human rights are acknowledged and highlighted in this great province.   On behalf of the Alberta Hate Crime Committee we would also like to congratulate the following individuals and organizations for receiving the first annual Alberta Hate Crime Committee Hate Crime Awareness Award:

In Edmonton: The Phoenix Multi-Faith Society
In Calgary: Dr. Darren Lund, University of Calgary
In Lethbridge: Lethbridge Family Services: Immigrant Services

Sincerely,
AHCC membership.

The AHCC has put together a NEW Anti-Hate Community Toolkit, now available online!

The Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police endorses the vision, mission and efforts of the Alberta Hate Crimes Committee.
